Mission

MISSION AT COLTS NECK REFORMED CHURCH

Colts Neck Reformed Church supports many organizations through volunteer participation, donations and support services.  Each of these organizations and ministries allow CNRC to expand its ministry throughout the community, country and world. 

The church strives to partner with appropriate ministries located or serving locally, regionally/nationally and internationally.   The information listed below includes ministries and organizations CNRC supports.  The list is divided into local, regional, international (including missionaries supported), and educational organizations.  Following this information is a list of events the church participates in on an annual basis.


LOCAL MISSION

  • Amistad, based at the First United Methodist Church, Freehold, seeks to minister to the Freehold area Hispanic community. Current programs include English as a Second Language (ESL) and after school help for younger children, and a Mother’s Club, which focuses on nutrition and parenting skills.   • Aslan Youth Ministry, located in Red Bank, provides emotional, physical, and spiritual support for disadvantaged youth and their families. They offer mentoring and tutoring programs, youth classes, sports, recreational activities, emergency services, emotional and spiritual counseling, and financial aid to children in need.   • The Center in Asbury Park is a volunteer service organization made up of people from all faiths who come together in response to the growing AIDS crisis in our society.  They provide assistance with housing, counseling, health, social and entitlement services to those with HIV/AIDS, their family, friends, and caregivers.   • Colts Neck Fire Department, first organized in 1926, is a volunteer fire department that serves Colts Neck.  Click here for more info on the fire department.
  • Colts Neck First Aid
  • Court Street School Education Community Center is located in the historic, restored Court Street School in Freehold. The center provides after-school programs and tutoring.Click here for more information on the Court Street School.
  • CPC Behavioral Healthcare provides integrated care for children and adults with mental health and substance abuse disorders. Our donation helps the Medication Emergency Fund.  Click here for more information on CPC.
  • Emergency Relief funds are allocated at the ministers's discretion to members and those in the surrounding comunities.  When referral to a local organization is not possible, funds are sometimes available to help those who come to the church for help with utility, housing, food, and other needs after meeting with the minister.
  • Family Promise of Monmouth County provides needed services to homeless families in our area. Local churches donate space to house these families in the evenings, for one week on a rotating basis.   • HABcore is a not-for-profit corporation in Monmouth County that provides permanent and transitional housing in a supportive, family setting to low income persons who are homeless, disabled, or otherwise unable to care for themselves. Click here for more information on HABcore.
  • Habitat for Humanity provides decent, affordable housing through volunteer efforts, no-interest mortgages, and “sweat equity”, in the Western Monmouth County area. Click here for more information on Habitat.
  • Love INC, Love In the Name of Christ, is an Eatontown based organization that assists with emergency relief and services for Monmouth County residents.  The organization also assists with connection to social service organizations. Click here for more information about Love INC.
  • Lunch Break, located in Red Bank, provides hot lunches, food baskets from their pantry, and emergency assistance to the needy. Click here for more information on Lunch Break.
  • Mental Health Association of Monmouth County is a private, nonprofit, citizens' advocacy organization dedicated to improving services for children and adults with mental illness. Click here for more information on Mental Health Association of Momouth County.
  • Monmouth Cares, Inc., in Eatontown, is a private, non-profit agency that is part of the New Jersey Partnership for Children in Monmouth County, NJ.  It is focused on serving children and adolescents with serious emotional and behavioral disorders and their families.   • Open Door is a non-profit, interfaith emergency food pantry and referral center located in downtown Freehold. Besides collecting and distributing food to the needy, Open Door has an after school tutoring and social program, an advocacy program to assist with problems of eviction, power shut-off, and similar difficulties, refers clients to organizations such as local welfare offices, and has begun serving hot lunches.   • 180 Turning Lives Around (formerly Women’s Center of Monmouth County), located in Hazlet, provides shelter, counseling, information, compassion and understanding to men, women and children. They have recently added a teen hotline to their services. Click here for more information on 180.

  • The Samaritan Center at the Jersey Shore is a place for families and individuals to turn for counseling, educational opportunities and spiritual enrichment. The goal of the center is to provide clinical psychological services, coaching and support in areas of one's health and life direction. REGIONAL AND NATIONAL MISSION

  • CNRC Congregational Mission Opportunities Each year, the church sponsors various mission endeavors involving adult and youth members.  Recent examples include a Women's Mission Trip assisting in church rehabilitation in Paterson, NJ and a Senior High Youth trip to Noxen. PA.
  • Newark Urban Program, at the North Reformed Church, provides Bible study and much needed food, clothes, and job training for those in need. Click here to find out more about the ministry of the North Reformed Church.
  • New Brunswick Theological Seminary Auxiliary provides support for the Seminary and its students through volunteer work such as hosting student graduation receptions and donations of appliances and other items needed by the seminary and its students.  
  • NJ Council of Churches is an ecumenical group serving as a resource, consultant, and advocate. Its office is located in Trenton. This diverse group of churches work toward mutual respect and defending justice.  
  • Pedals for Progress rescues bicycles destined for overburdened U.S. landfills and ships them to developing countries where they are sorely needed and highly valued. P4P bikes are put to work not only as basic transportation, but are used as a supplement to school and community programs. The bikes are adapted for use as trash haulers, produce trucks, taxis, and farm machinery. Click here to learn more about Pedals for Progress.
  • Project Hospitality, Staten Island, NY began in 1982 as a volunteer interfaith effort responding to the emergency needs of the homeless with a soup kitchen and overnight emergency shelter in the basement of Brighton Heights Church. Today, Project Hospitality administers a range of comprehensive direct care programs, serving more than 5,000 people of the community annually.   • Reformed Church in America Board of Benefits Services provides medical, retirement, disability, and assistance benefits for pastors, missionaries, and lay employees and their families.  Click here for information on the RCA BoBS.
  • Reformed Church Home, Old Bridge, NJ, is the Regional Synod home for the elderly, providing intermediate and nursing care. Click here to learn more about the Reformed Church Home.
  • Rutgers Protestant Campus Ministries provides small group Bible study, worship, and community service projects to students. Click here to learn more about Rutgers Protestant Ministries.
  • Trinity Reformed Church, Newark, is in the midst of revitalization. It has been transformed into a multi-ethnic congregation serving the needs of the community with several worship services and programs. Trinity also runs a variety of youth programs through their ministry called Safe Haven, which reach out to many youth in their neighborhood to offer help and the Christian message.   • Warwick Conference Center, Warwick, NY, is a facility of the RCA. It is a “place of nurture”, offering Christian programs and retreats.  Click here for more information about Warwick Camp and Conference Center.

INTERNATIONAL MISSION

  • Bread for the World is a nationwide Christian movement seeking justice for the world’s hungry people by lobbying our nation’s decision-makers. They encourage an Offering of Letters each year in which church members get together and write letters to their government officials. Click here for more information on Bread for the World.
  • Church World Service is an international humanitarian agency and ministry of 36 denominations, working in partnership with local organizations in more than 80 countries to support sustainable self-help and development, meet emergency needs, aid refugees, and address the root causes of poverty and powerlessness.  The annual CROP Walk (see church mission events below) and previous collections for hurricane relief raise support for CWS.  Click here to learn more about Church World Service.
  • Compassion International is a Christian organization that works to help children who suffer from spiritual, economic, social, and physical poverty and enables them to become responsible and fulfilled Christian adults.  The weekly offerings of the church school children support sponsored children from around the world.  Click here for more information on Compassion International.
  • Words of Hope is a radio ministry that broadcasts in the U.S. and around the world.  Often, radio is the best opportunity to reach areas that are usually difficult to evangelize due to geography, political, or religious barriers.  WOH broadcasts to millions of people in over 40 native languages on hundreds of radio stations around the world.  In addition, the minstry provides print and electronic resources for devotions and Bible study. RCA MISSION SUPPORT

 

CNRC supports a number of missionaries and missions throughout the world through the Reformed Church in America.  Listed below are countries in which missionaries we suppoort directly are serving and details about their mission work.  Click on the links to fins out more about recent updates from abroad!

  • Croatia - Eric and Nancy Titus serve in Croatia with the Evangelical Theological Seminary and Reformed Christian Church in areas of Christian leadership training and education and church revitalization. Eric is teaching at the Seminary and Nancy is teaching English and editing seminary publications. They are in Croatia with their 3 children: Samuel, Valerie and Penny.  For more information on the Titus's and the Croatian Mission, click here.
  • India - CNRC partners with Linn Gann and Mission Partners India in many ministries including: evangelism, women's ministries, livestock aid and small business development.Click here for more information about the India mission and access to Linn's latest letter.
  • Kenya - CNRC supports the mission in Alale, Kenya, in the West Pokot region along the Kenya/Uganda border.  Amos Liang’or currently works as a nurse at the Pokot Health Centre in the village of Alale.  The Pokot rely on the clinic for health services. There they receive prenatal care, immunizations, volunteer counseling and testing for HIV/AIDS, family planning counseling, and treatment for malaria, cholera, broken bones, minor wounds, and other ailments.  For more information on the Kenya mission, please click here.
  • Niger - Tom Johnson and his wife, Aichatou, who serve in Niger, one of the poorest countries in the world in the west of Africa. He is a community development instructor with the Bible school operated by the Evangelical Church of Niger (EERN), the RCA's partner organization. At the Bible school he teaches students who are preparing to be pastors and evangelists.  Tom also works in community development, while Aichatou is involved in health care, education and training. For information on the Niger mission or access to the Johnson's letter, click here.
  • Sundan - Shelvis and Nancy Smith-Mather work with RECONCILE, (Resource Centre for Civil Leadership), an indigenous ecumenical Christian organization. It promotes peace-building to this war torn country by providing training in trauma recovery, conflict transformation, and civic education. For more information on the Sudan Mission, click here.
  • United States - Bruce and Laurie Hawley work as Mutual Mission Coordinators for the RCA on domestic and international projects.  They assist mission partners in project development and in overseeing projects, and provide on-site orientation for mission volunteers, with special attention to cross-cultural sensitivity, work coordination, hospitality, and spiritual care.  For more information on the Hawley's, please click here.

COLLEGE AND SEMINARY SUPPORT

  • Our congregation supports Central College, a Reformed Church college in Iowa, with donations to its Heritage Grant Program. The Grant provides financial assistance to sons and daughters of Reformed Church members. Click here for more information on Central College.


  • Our church supports the Classis Student Aid Fund, a scholarship fund administered by the Classis of New Brunswick to aid students under its jurisdiction who are studying to become ordained Reformed Church ministers.


  • Hope College is a distinguished and distinctive four-year, liberal arts, undergraduate college, affiliated with the Reformed Church in America. Its great religious heritage is expressed through a dynamic Christian community of students and teachers vitally concerned with a relevant faith that changes lives and transforms society.   • New Brunswick Theological Seminary is a teaching institution of the Reformed Church in America. Its mission is to continue the ministry of Jesus in our time and place by enabling persons to translate their calling and gifts into faithful Christian ministry.   • A NBTS Student Scholarship provides funds to a deserving student enrolled at New Brunswick Theological Seminary.


  • Northwestern College, located in Orange City, Iowa, and affiliated with the Reformed Church in America, provides a distinctively Christian perspective to higher education. They prepare students for lives of service to God and to others. Click here for more information on Northwestern College.

Election Day Dinner and Bazaar

Each November the congregation joins together in a remarkable way and holds its only fund-raising activity -- the Election Day Dinner and Bazaar. Begun in 1866 as the Harvest Home Dinner, this is truly a community event! All proceeds from this day go to benevolences.
