Youth Programs

Youth Program Overview

Our Young Youth (1st - 6th grades), Junior High Youth (7th - 8th grades), and Senior High Youth (9th - 12th grades) groups meet regularly during the year for various activities and events.  Currently, our Young Youth meet once a month on Sunday evenings from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. in Fellowship Hall.  7-12th grades typically meet three times a month.  The first week of the month is typically a combined special event, while the second and third weeks of the month usually meet from 12 - 2 p.m and feature lunch, ice breakers and separate Junior and Senior High groups for fellowship activities.  First meetings of the month will feature activities like: bowling, ice skating, pumpkin carving and more.  Check the current calendar for specific dates and times.

All the events focus on:
  • fellowship and fun with others in the same age group
  • mission and learning through serving others
  • education and application of critical thinking about faith and daily life.

Often, the youth programs overlap with music and worship programs, as many of the youth are involved in choirs and worship leadership in addition to youth fellowship groups and activities. Activities are open to all youth in grade one through high school.  Bringing friends is encouraged!  Our monthly newsletter (The Reformed Informer) and bulletin board in Fellowship Hall have all of the latest events listed and any sign ups available.

Fellowship Fridays (4-6 year olds)

This youngest youth group meets one Friday afternoon a month from 5:00 - 6:30 p.m.  They work on a craft, play some games, and eat pizza together under the supervision of several dedicated Moms.  It gives our youngest children the opportunity to make some new friends outside of school and their neighborhood.

Young Youth Fellowship (Grades 1-6)

This group meets once a month, on a Sunday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. for activities focused primarily on fellowship.  It is a great way to get a young person involved in church life outside of Church School on Sunday mornings. Recent events include cookie baking, Christmas caroling, a Hawaiian party and a game day.

Junior High Youth Group (Grades 7-8)

Our Junior High Youth typically meet on the second and third Sundays of the moth from Noon - 2 p.m., beginning in Fellowship Hall.  An additional meeting on the first week of the month is on Sunday afternoon (times vary) and is usually dedicated to a special service or fellowship event (check the calendar for detailed schedule).  Our goals for this group include continued fellowship and relationship development and aspects of mission and education which engage the kids' developing faith.

The following are some typical or recent activities:

  • Helping at the Election Day Dinner
  • Bowling
  • Christmas Party
  • "Dinner and Games" meetings
  • 30-Hour Famine (a sleep over at the church which promotes awareness for hunger around the world)
  • Food Drive collections
  • Souper Bowl of Caring
  • CROP Walk
  • Pizza parties and other events
  • Bible study and reflection

Senior High Youth Group (Grades 9-12)

Our Junior High Youth typically meet on the second and third Sundays of the moth from Noon - 2 p.m., beginning in Fellowship Hall.  An additional meeting on the first week of the month is on Sunday afternoon (times vary) and is usually dedicated to a special service or fellowship event (check the calendar for detailed schedule).  This group continues to encourage fellowship, while often focusing on mission and education activities. The Senior High Youth Group activities attempt to engage the teens' continued understanding and development of their faith, while applying critical thinking from a faith perspective toward pop culture and daily life. This group participates in serving an annual Easter Breakfast and making subs for the Super Bowl Sub Sale, with proceeds from these events going toward their annual summer mission trip and regular youth expenses. They also occasionally make donations to the church by purchasing needed items.

Our regular activities as well as some recent events include:

  • Waiter/Waitress at the Election Day Dinner
  • CROP Walk
  • Keeping score at the Colts Neck Polo Association matches
  • Pedals for Progress bike collection
  • Summer mission trips
  • "Dinner and Games" meetings
  • Movie nights (viewing movies and discussion about Christian themes)
  • Bible studies
  • Christmas Party
  • Game Day
  • Outdoor games such as Frisbee golf
  • Bowling
  • Super Bowl party
  • Beach trips
  • Tubing on the Delaware

Teen Leaders Sought for Youth Planning

Our youth groups are focused on serving the teens of our church and offering  fellowship and faith application through service and education.  We are seeking teens, at least one from each grade 7-12, for a youth leadership team that will help plan our youth activities.  This leadership group will also meet for devotional reflection and faith exploration on a deeper level than typical youth meetings.  If you are a teen who might be interested in taking on a leadership role, or a parent who would like to encourage your child to do so, please contact Rev. Chris Vande Bunte for more information and details.

Senior High Youth Summer Mission Trip Planning

Planning for the summer mission trip of 2012 is underway.  If you would like to participate in planning, like to help decide where the trip will go or when we will go, we need your help!  Please contact Rev. Chris Vande Bunte for more information.
