Holy Week Worship Services

  • Maundy Thursday, April 18th, at 7:30 p.m.: This service acknowledges both the command (hence the name; the Latin for commandment is “mandatum”) that Jesus gives on the night before his crucifixion to love one another, as well as the Last Supper. Communion will be shared as we remember the sacrifice and hope that is found in Jesus. We worship in Fellowship Hall.

Good Friday, April 19th, at 7:30 p.m.: A tenebrae service – which means that the sanctuary will gradually move to darkness as we reflect on the crucifixion. This moving service centers on the death of Jesus (given so that we might have eternal life) and is crucial in putting the joy and power of Easter into perspective.

Easter Sunday, April 21st, at 7:00, 9:15 and 11:00 a.m.: At 7:00 a.m. (Easter dawn service), in response to the first verses of the Easter story, “Early in the day, Mary came to the tomb…” we gather outside in the cemetery for worship. It is acceptable to come to this service dressed casually! (In the event of rain, the service will be in the sanctuary.) At 9:15 and 11:00 a.m., Joy! Hope! Peace! Come to hear the news that the world needs to hear: Jesus Christ` is risen today! Alleluia! These identical festival services celebrate the victory of eternal and abundant life.
